Tharandter Wald

tw_01 Since we where sitting inside the whole week we decided on a short trip into the nature on Sunday even though it was raining. So we additionally tested our recently waterproofed jackets and boots. They are waterproof :)

We decided to visit the Forest Park (Forstbotanischer Garten) in Tharandt of the TU Dresden. It was a nice walk in the forest and there where also trees which where especially colourful these days. Every tree and bush was labeled and so you could also learn something about them if you wished.  You have no idea what funny names trees can have ;)

If you are in the area, a visit is recommended!

Klassentreffen

zugeschnittenWhen I think about it, I can’t really believe it, but its already five years ago, when I graduated from high school. This fact was a reason for some people of my former school, to organise a coming together in Erfurt. Since, for a change, I’m not too far away from home to come over for a weekend-visit, I decided to go. Not everybody I hoped for seeing, made it to the reunion, but I still met a lot of people I haven’t seen since five years. In a way everybody changed a bit, but in the end, its just the same it has always been. :)

Usually, when you meet people abroad, you promise each other to meet up again soon, but usually that doesn’t really work out. Therefore I was more than happy when Lorenz and his girlfriend decided to come to Dresden for a short visit. We had a lot of fun (as you can guess from the picture) and spent the most time sight seeing, cooking or just talking.

Thank you  for comming around!

Cybernetics Consecration

Posted in Friends, GERMANY, Magdeburg on September 28th, 2009 by Anne – 3 Comments

dipl_01Now it’s already nearly a month ago, but I still want to publish some pictures of my final Diploma presentation, the party afterwards and my consecration to a real Cybernetician by my buddies :)

The first thing I had to do this day, was obviously defending my thesis.  Since I had to do this already in Sweden, I wasn’t as exited as I could have been. Still…. A weired feeling in my stomach was present anyway. But many of my friends came to participate in the talk. Therefore I was able to look in many familiar faces while talking. Thank you guys!

(Before the presentation – Vor der Verteidigung)

After my presentation,  I got a wonderful present from my parents:  a T-shirt saying, that I’m an engineer now, designed by Michael Schinköthe a former student of my mum.  I also got a painting from him with the same motive which is now covering a wall in our living room. This was a totally awesome idea of my parents, and I’m still stunned when looking at the picture every day! Thank you!

In the evening I invited everybody to the Nordpark to have a barbecue, the way we always had it in former times ;)

(My mum playing Kubb)

The thing that was different,  was the Kubb- game we played, but besides that we had a BBQ

and some beers and a great time…

After we were all full and satisfied the last major event of the day took place. Some of my friends prepared a Cybernetics consecration,  where I had to prove my academic competence,  my cultural competence and my social competence.

dipl_01

(Paul with the Checklist)

First, academic competence: I had to balance five wooden blocks (of the Kubb game) as an inverted pendulum and run with them around a tree and back. It actually sounds harder as it is…

Second, cultural competence: Everybody who knows me, should be aware of the fact that I don’t really like to watch movies. Consequently, I hardly know any movie.  Therefore the task to match quotes and movies was very hard for me. Even though everybody told me, that these are REALLY FAMOUS movies, I’ve never heard of anyone, neither watched one…  Nevertheless I got 3 out of 5 right with my first pick by random guessing. That was kind of neat. But to figure out, witch two I mixed up, took me a while ;)

Third, social competence: Have you ever tried to identify your male friends by touching their forearm while having your eyes closed?! This is SO DAMN HARD! I never payed attention about the forearms of my friends… I should have! The only one I could identify was my boyfriend. Even my dad was too hard to identify for me…  I needed many rounds of toughing and guessing and at the end I solved it by pure logic. But it was a lot of fun, that’s for sure :)

(Me and my trophy)

So I got my trophy, even before Ulf got his, even though he graduated before me. That was a really neat idea, and I had a lot of fun.  Thank you so much, guys!

It was a really great day and evening and night and I appreciate it a lot! Thank you all for coming out!

SigmaTauKappa – Sommerakademie

Posted in Friends, GERMANY on September 3rd, 2009 by Anne – 2 Comments

After I came back from Sweden I spent one incredible, wonderful, awesome, entertaining, joyful and overall great week with my friends from university in the very remote place Pirna-Liebetal in Saxony. Nearly all of my close friends came out what was totally amazing!

(The Week Crew – Das Wochen Team)

We spent the mornings with giving talks about what we were working on during the last 2 years, where many of us went abroad or spent time in a company. And for all the afternoons many great activities were planed or spontaneously selected. We stayed at the “Gästehaus Pirna-Liebetal” which is to be recommended!

(Breakfast – Frühstück)

The first day we hiked up to the Schrammsteine and enjoyed an incredible view over the Elbe-valley. The tour was well planned and guided by Martin – Thank you :)

On Sunday we decided to explore the wonderful city of Dresden. Equipped with a guidebook and some insider information we saw all the obligatory sights and much more.

(Dresden – Kreuzkirche)

In the evening we even experienced wonderful fireworks over the “skyline” of Dresden.

Since we had only one car for 7 people I got the chance to ride on the back of Paul’s motorbike a couple of times with him! That was great fun – Thank you Paul! I was kind of sad when René added one more car to our car pool, and there was no need to go by motorbike anymore ;)

The next day, we decided to go climbing in a “Hochseilgarten” and I really loved it. It was exhausting and challenging, but it was FUN! And I was so sore the next day! But I got some massages from the guys, so I recovered very fast ;)

(Hochseilgarten)

And that was quite necessary because we decided to go kayaking the next day. And I did feel my arms quite a lot when we started ;)

pirna_01

(This was not our boat, but it’s a nice picture. – Das war aber nicht unser Boot.)

Wednesday was a relaxing day without any outdoor activities. We just went to a play at the “Felsenbühne Rathen”,

and celebrated Tommys birthday with too much Jamaica Punch after 12pm.

The last day was reserved for an intense and active hiking tour organized by Martin to the “Affensteine” . And I have to admit, it was really intense and very active and it was the hottest day of the year… ;)

pirna_01

(The crew)

When we were standing on the bottom of the wall you see on the picture below, Martin asked us, if we all feel comfortable to climb up there, because it will be the hardest part of the hike.  Well I was not quite comfortable with it and it was by far not the hardest part of the hike but anyway, I made it ;)

pirna_01

(Climbing… – Klettern)

For me it was way harder to climb up the Häntzschelstiege. And there exist not that many pictures of that place indicating that nobody felt quite comfortable to take any.

pirna_01

(Häntzschelstiege)

But it was a wonderful hike and I would always do it again. Well done, Martin!

pirna_01

After that event I had to leave Pirna to fly to Vienna the next morning. But I really enjoyed my time with you all and hope that we can do this every year again and again and again and … :D
